Scrubber systems (e.g. chemical scrubbers, gas scrubbers) are a diverse group of air pollution control devices that can be used to remove some particulates and/or gases from industrial exhaust streams.
The exhaust gases of combustion may contain substances considered harmful to the environment, and the scrubber may remove or neutralize those. A wet scrubber is used for cleaning air, fuel gas or other gases of various pollutants and dust particles.
A venturi scrubber consists of a converging section, a throat (the narrowest part of the venturi tube) and a diffuser. The gas flows through the venturi tube and reaches top speed in the throat section. Thereafter, the gas passes into the diffuser where the speed of the gas drops once again.
Cyclone separators or simply cyclones are separation devices that use the principle of inertia to remove particulate matter from flue gases. Cyclone separators is one of many air pollution control devices known as pre cleaners since they generally remove larger pieces of particulate matter.
